Jubal and Tubalcain: Music and Metalworking in Genesis 4
Genesis 4 names Jubal, “the father of all such as handle the harp and organ”, and Tubalcain, “an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron”, among the sons of Lamech. Sebastian C. Adams drew them on his chart and printed these words beside them.
In short: Genesis 4:21 names Jubal, “the father of all such as handle the harp and organ”, and 4:22 names Tubalcain, “an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron”.
What Genesis says
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. 21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. 22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

On Adams’ chart
Adams draws a musician with a harp, a pipe and a timbrel, and a metalworker holding a hammer above the work surface, with smoke rising behind. The label “CAINITES” stands beside the musician; the instrument at his mouth is labeled “PIPE OR ORGAN” and the nearby percussion instrument “TIMBREL”. The heading above the worker reads “IRON AGE From TUBAL-CAIN.” Adams prints these words beside them:
“His brothers name was Jubal, was the father of such as handle the Harp and Organ”- all stringed and wind-instruments.
“And Zillah bare Tubal-cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron.”
