Enoch Walked With God: His Age, His Son and the Book of Enoch

Enoch is the seventh from Adam. Genesis gives his years in four verses; Adams’ chart prints two notices on the same panel, one about a book that bears his name and one about the name Edris.

In short: Enoch lived 365 years; “Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). He was the father of Methuselah, and the seventh from Adam.

What the Bible says

21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Genesis 5:21–24, King James Version
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Hebrews 11:5, King James Version
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Jude 14, King James Version

His years

Genesis 5Year of the world
BornJared was 162 when Enoch was born (verse 18)622 (460 + 162)
His sonMethuselah, born when Enoch was 65 (verse 21)687 (622 + 65)
His life365 years (verse 23)987 (622 + 365)

The year of the world is the running total of the fathers’ ages when their sons were born, as Adams’ chart sets it out; the years in the last column are calculations from Genesis 5.

Two notices on Adams’ chart

Above Methuselah’s band, Adams prints a notice about a book:

There is a Book extant [c]alled the “BOOK of ENOCH” but generally considered apocryphal,
“Was perhaps written by some devout Christian of the first Century” Ed.d Robinson D.D. Ed. Bi. Dic.
Printed on Adams’ chart, panel 2 (the letter in brackets is hidden in the scan)

Above Jared’s band, a second notice gives Enoch the name Edris:

The Arabian name of ENOCH is EDRIS and their traditions of him are, that he was an eminent astronomer […] mathematician and prophet of God. Brit. Cy.
Printed on Adams’ chart, panel 2 (the notice runs past the right edge of the panel; a raised dot between “astronomer” and “mathematician” is marked […])
